Obituary of Robert Vess

Robert D. Vess, Sr., 57, of the city of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Saturday, May 30,2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A lifelong area resident, he was employed as a Forman for the City of Poughkeepsie Parks & Recreation Dept. for over 20 years, he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He loved to fish and work on computers. He enjoyed being with his family. Born in Poughkeepsie on Dec. 13, 1951, he was the son of William. H. Vess, Sr. and Inez Foster Vess. He attended Poughkeepsie Schools. He is survived by his mother, of Poughkeepsie; his fiancee, Tammy VanVliet; his son, Robert D. Vess, Jr.; his granddaughter, Faith Vess; nieces and nephews, Eric and David Vess,Rebecca, DJ, Halley Noah and Hannah. Several Aunts and Uncles. He was predeceased by his father, William H. Vess, Sr. August 12, 1997 and a brother, William H. Vess, Jr. who passed away in 2004. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Route 9G, Hyde Park.
