Obituary of May Waligora

May Waligora, 89, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Mrs. Waligora realized a lifelong dream and graduated from Dutchess Community College in 1978 with a degree in Nursing and was employed by Hudson River Psychiatric Center, retiring in 1990. She loved to play cards and her family was everything to her. Born June 29, 1919 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late John and Suea Nilsson In August 1937, she married Henry J. Waligora Sr., in Massachusetts. Mr. Waligora died January 25, 2002. Survivors include her son John Waligora of Naples, FL; her daughter, Melinda Zamaloff of Poughkeepsie; seven grandchildren, April McClendon and her husband, Rob; Tara Roman and her husband, Fred; Bruce Waligora Jr.; Jason Zamaloff and his wife, Andrea; Eric Waligora and his wife, Holly; John Waligora and his wife, Beth; and Matthew Waligora; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Henry Waligora Jr. in 2000 and Bruce Waligora in 2008. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John Nilsson and Charles Nilsson and her daughter-inlaw, Micheline. Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m., Monday, March 16, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Ave., Poughkeepsie.
