Obituary of Robert Wermuth

Robert H. Wermuth, Sr., of Poughkeepsie, died August 20, 2010 at home. Born in Poughkeepsie on September 16, he was the son of Robert A. and Mary E. Martin Wermuth. On January 8, 1949, he married Kathleen A. Mullady at St. Mary's Church in Flushing, Long Island. Mrs. Wermuth survives at home. Mr. Wermuth retired from IBM after 32 years of service. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Church, where he was a Trustee for 18 years and was active in many fund drives. He graduated from St. Peter's Grammar School and St. Peter's High School, where he was taught and educated at both schools by the Marist brothers, of whom he was very proud. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree in Poughkeepsie, and served in the Homeland Defense Service during World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Kathleen A. Hoyt of Marathon, NY, Mary E. Thompson of Hyde Park, Johanna M. Wermuth of Poughkeepsie, Robert H. Wermuth, Jr. of Hopewell Junction, and Thomas S. Wermuth of Clermont. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary D. Wermuth in 1998. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 4 to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10am. Father James A. Garisto will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Church, Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
