Obituary of Eugene Whiteley

Eugene J. Whiteley, of the Town of LaGrange, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home. He was 78. Born in Poughkeepsie on July 10, 1932 to Edward and Emily Whiteley, he was a lifetime area resident. He retired in 1992 after 42 years in Quality Control with IBM in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Whitely was a member of Holy Trinity Church and a graduate of Arlington High School. He married his wife Eleanor J. Mandy on September 29, 1956 at St. Augustine Church in Highland, NY. They loved to travel together after his retirement and their favorite destination was Ireland. She predeceased him on June 4, 2004. He is survived by his son Joseph and his wife Lorie Whiteley of Poughkeepsie, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Carol Whitely of Fayetteville, GA, son and daughter-in-law David and Valerie Whiteley of Pleasant Valley, grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Rachel, Nicholas, Drew and Madison; step-grandchildren Morgan and Mallory; brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Joan Whiteley; and brother and sister-in-law William and Tess Whiteley. Besides his wife Eleanor, he was predeceased by a sister, Clare DuPilka and a brother, Michael Whiteley. Calling hours will be Friday, September 24, 2010 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00am on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie. Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 2 Jefferson St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
