Obituary of William Gillette

William John Gillette, life long resident of Dutchess County, passed away on March 3, 2012. He spread his luminosity through all who gathered to listen. Bill shed his love and generosity to all. Parented by Helen and Wilbur Gillette, he graduated from Arlington High School in 1956, served in the United States Navy construction battalion (Seabees) in Puerto Rico and married Jean Napoli of Poughkeepsie in 1960. Bill was an active member of the community, fostering local sports teams, clubs, community events, and always lent his support to those in need. His god given craft and devoted career was in unique custom home building. His distinguished career was highlighted by working with the areas most notable tradesmen, with nationally acclaimed architects, and building "dream houses" for his clients through his pride and joy company Gillette & Sons Construction. His passions included his families happiness, hunting, scuba diving, antiquing, wood working, local history, & exploring. Survived by Jean Gillette, sons William Jr., David, and Brian Gillette, daughter Linda Phillips, son-in-law Craig Phillips, along with families, including 5 beloved grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday March 8, 2012, 4-8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friend of Seniors of Dutchess County Corp.
