Obituary of Rita Miller

Rita Miller, age 84, of Millbrook, and formally of Wappingers Falls, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. Rita was born June 9, 1928 in Poughkeepsie, NY. She is the daughter of the late Earl and the late Agnes (Collins) VanVoorhis. She married George Miller on September 24, 1950 at St. Mary's Poughkeepsie, George survives at home Rita was a home maker and lifelong area resident. She previously worked as a Activities Director at the Glen Eagle Rest Home, was a switch board operator at Vassar Hospital and a Ombudsman for the Dutchess County Office of the aging. Rita volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts and Brownies and was also a leader at 4H. She loved to paint, she did cake decorating, flower arrangement and crafts. Rita also was involved with Meals on Wheels, where she helped deliver meals to the senior citizens. She is survived by her husband: George Miller , her three sons and their wives: Robert and Marianne Miller of Voorheesville, NY, Gary and Mary Ann Miller of Jordan, NY, Thomas and Janie Miller of Old Chatam, NY and her daughter and son in-law: Cathy and Bobby Meyer of Wappingers Falls, NY. Rita is also survived by Six Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations made to, St. Judes' Childrens Hospital 501 St. Judes' Place Memphis Tennessee 38105. The Funeral and Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York 12603.
