Obituary of Alfred Wing

Alfred 'Alfie' Emmanuel Wing of Wappingers Falls, NY, crossed over to be joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Virginia, and cherished mother, Anna. His devoted and loving daughters were honored to be at his side. Born October 24, 1928, Alfie was the youngest and sole surviving sibling in a family of nine boys. Alfie spent a happy childhood with his parents, George William and Anna Marie Wing, eight brothers, horse, 'Dolly', dog,' Pal', and best friend, Teddy Briggs, on his parents Long Acres dairy farm, Tower Hill, NY. At the age of sixteen Alfie quit school to care for his beloved ailing mother. He proudly served his country in the Army as heavy machine operator building railroads and was highly regarded for his skills. He was stationed at Fort Devens, MA, North Carolina and Roanoke, VA. Alfie was a member of the local American Legion Post 1302. Alfie had a wide range of occupations that spanned a self-employed bull dozer operation to a landscaping foreman at Boardman Road to delivering flowers. Alfie was a strong, independent, kind, compassionate, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend with unconditional love and an endless heart of gold. Alfie was a hero to his daughters and doted on his three lovely granddaughters. A romantic at heart, after his wife of 50 years passed Alfie faithfully kept a vigil of fresh flowers in her memory and honor. A man of simple pleasures, Alfie enjoyed all the wonders of nature, being outside in the fresh air, watching hummingbirds, bluebirds, playing cards and solving crosswords puzzles. In the summer he grew tomatoes, green peppers and cucumbers that he generously shared. Always a country boy at heart, Alfie enjoyed riding the back roads of Dutchess County, farms, red barns, old stone walls and wooden fences. He collected miniature John Deere tractors and even bravely tried horseback riding mid-life. He was well known locally for his handcrafted woodworking creations particularly birdhouses, bird feeders and wishing wells. Alfie was young at heart, mind, body and soul. He affectionately addressed everyone as 'Boss', was quick witted and made people laugh with his funny jokes and stories. Alfie was an avid and dedicated Yankee fan who especially admired Derek Jeter as a player and gentleman. He appreciated football, particularly the Washington Redskins. Alfie enjoyed cooking and was an excellent chef as well as a BBQ master. A perfect day in Alfie's life could be described as rising early to enjoy the peaceful quiet of the morning, sitting on the sun porch doing the daily crossword puzzle and jumble, reading his favorite comic strips, 'Dennis the Menace' and 'Charlie Brown', while watching a family of bluebirds nesting in a house he handcrafted especially for them, spending time with his cherished family, enjoying the fresh air sitting outside on his deck watching hummingbirds at the feeder, doing woodworking, going for a country ride, BBQ'ing on the grill and watching the Yankees after dinner. Alfie's guiding principle for life was 'do not be a quitter' and 'life must go on'. He was feisty, funny and a fighter right to the end. Alfie enriched and bettered the lives of all those who were blessed to know him. He lived a happy, full, independent life with no regrets and said life owed him nothing. Although Alfie's passing will leave a huge permanent void in the lifes of those who knew and loved him, He's finally at peace with no pain. One thing for sure…Alfie, was NOT a quitter. Alfred is survived by his daughter Cathy Richards-Hingos and her husband, Steve, of Kingston, NY, daughter Susan Richards of Mamaroneck, NY, daughter Cheryl Wing-Golabek, her husband Joe and their three children, Danielle, Brittany, and Madison of Carmel, NY.
