Obituary of Robert Kuchenmeister

Robert Kuchenmeister, 85, of Highland, NY, (formerly of Unionvale, NY) died on Monday, August 27 after a ten year battle against leukemia. Born on December 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Charles and Maude (Oakley) Kuchenmeister. Bob graduated from Yorktown High School in 1945 and entered the U.S. Army where he served as part of the occupational forces in Korea. On April 8, 1949 he married the former Thelma King, who survives at home. They shared 63 wonderful years together, making happy family memories: boating, camping, and snowmobiling. Traveling the country together in their retirement years brought them much joy. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters, Joan Kuchenmeister and Barbara Kuchenmeister, both of Poughkeepsie, his grandson Matthew Fluck and his wife Erin of Manchester, NH, granddaughter Jennifer Fluck of Beacon, NY, two great-grandsons Liam and Barrett Fluck, and his sister Jean Schlegel of Hopewell Junction, NY. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by brothers Alva (Bill), Theodore, Charles (Spike), Fred, and Andrew(Pete) Kuchenmeister, and sisters MaryJane Mcginnis and IdaMae Ross. Bob was a member of Teamsters Local #445 Heavy Construction Division. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter with Arlington Engine Company #1, joining in 1961 and becoming a life member in 1976. Calling hours will be held at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Burial will be private.
