Obituary of Dorothy Peluso

Dorothy "Dotty" Peluso born August 29, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Florence Payne Poholchuk and Nickifor Poholchuk died, Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Louis Peluso, and her brother, Nicholas Poholchuk. Dorothy graduated from the New York School of Dog Grooming in Manhattan and enjoyed many years working independently in this field. She later went on to work at JC Penney as an Intimate Apparel Specialist until her retirement. She also served the community as a Disability Rights advocate. Dorothy loved collecting antiques, dolls, books, stamps and coins. Throughout her life, she was an avid dancer and beauty contender after winning her beauty crown in her youth. She was an active church member of the Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie where many close friendships were formed. Dorothy was also a member of several senior groups, including the Red Hatters, Club 60, and the Italian Center. She volunteered at the Dutchess County SPCA, the American Cancer Society, and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. She also generously donated to many animal rescue groups and shelters. Dorothy is survived by her son Michael Peluso, of Albany, NY and her two daughters, Louise Gerard of Milton, NY and Dolores Peluso of Poughkeepsie, NY. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Michelle, Destini, and Michael; 12 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her dear pets, Bella, Hunter, Sugar and Garfield. Calling hours will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY on Sunday, February 10, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Church services will then be held on Monday, February 11, at 1:00 pm at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Chapel, followed by entombment. Dorothy will be most lovingly and respectfully remembered for her strength of character, her unswerving devotion and fortitude which she has passed on to her children and grandchildren.
