Obituary of Kevin Brady

Kevin Joseph Brady Born on July 25, 1922 in Tranmere, County Cheshire, England, he was the son of John and Annie (Houghton) Brady. His family immigrated to Brooklyn, NY on October 29, 1929, arriving the day the stock market crashed. Four and a half years later, the family moved to Dublin, Ireland. Kevin attended the well known Synge Street Christian Brothers' All Gaelic School, where he became fluent in the language. They lived in Dublin for four years before moving to London, England in 1937 where they resided during WWII. During the war, Kevin proudly served in the Royal Navy as a petty officer electrician. His unit was involved in one of the many forms of deception used during the war. He was discharged in 1945. On July 27, 1947, Kevin married Kathleen (Collins) Brady at St. Paul's RC Church, Wood Green, London. Kathleen predeceased him on Jan. 3, 2006. In 1956, due to bad economic conditions in the UK, Kevin and his young family immigrated to America in pursuit of "The American Dream." Kevin worked for twenty nine years as an electronic technician at IBM Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1985. During his working years and retirement, Kevin enjoyed photography and cabinet making, creating many fine pieces of furniture. Kevin and Kathleen traveled extensively to England, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Canada, the Continental United States and they also visited the Holy Land. He taught English through Literacy Volunteers of America and was a member of the River Bank Banjo Band. Kevin was of the Roman Catholic faith and a parishioner at St. Martin De Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Dennis and her husband Robert of Buckingham, VA; sons, Brendan Brady and his wife Melanee of Poughkeepsie, NY; Stephen Brady and his wife JoAnne Lobotsky of Riverdale, NY; Michael Brady and his wife Rindy of Pleasant Valley, NY; grandsons, Adam and Ryan Brady; step grandsons, Kirk Dennis, Thomas Soricelli, Patrick and Devin Sullivan; and several step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Bernard Brady and his wife Jeanne of Hyde Park, NY and John Brady and his wife Marlis of Canton, MI; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife and parents Kevin was predeceased by his sister, Norah Warren. Dad was a humble, hard working man of deep faith who quietly taught his values through example and respect for others. As those who knew him already know, he would wish to be remembered in whatever way seems fitting for you to pass his memory forward. The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Joanne, Norma, Joan, Chris, Ileana and Bridget for lovingly caring for Dad during the past several months.
