Obituary of Harriett K. Palmateer

Harriett K. Palmateer, 85 , a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, NY passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. Harriett was born on October 12, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Kenneth and Margaret Doyle Peck. She married Joseph Palmateer in Alabama on November 18, 1957 who survives at home.

As a local resident, Harriett held the NY State Baton Twirling Championship for years and opened Harriett's School of Twirling and later Harriett's Drum and Bugle Corp. She had a great love of children and  enjoyed doing numerous benefits and charities for the community. Harriett was a greeter for the Spackenkill School District for many years and was known as Miss Harriett for 20 plus years. She was also a chef at Cardinal Hayes Home where she was famous for her soup and love of the children. Harriett was also the proud president of the VFW Post 170 Ladies Auxillary.

In addition to her husband, Harriett is survived by her son, Ralph and wife Barbara Rose of Whitmere, SC, two daughters, Donna and husband Stephen Bruce of Albany, NY, Michelle and husband Mark Daniels of Elizaville, NY, grandchildren Crystal Diange, Stephen and Rebecca Bruce, Heather Graziosi, Cassie, Connie, Ralph Rose, Jr., nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is predeceased by a brother Kenneth Peck and sister Irene Fellion.

Visitation  will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:00am at the Funeral Home. Burial is to follow at Union Cemetery, Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY.
