Obituary of Tina Toussaint

Tina Toussaint, 100, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Pines in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was born on January 17, 1921 as Trijntje Bergsma in Siegerswoude, the Netherlands. She was the daughter of Bote and Trijntje (de Boer)  Bergsma. On August 28, 1941, Tina married Joseph Toussaint and they had three children, Tina T. Haggett (James) of Poughkeepsie, NY; Peter Toussaint (Sharon) of Austin, TX and Andrew Toussaint (Cynthia) of Gettysburg, PA. In 1956, the family immigrated to the United States of America.

Tina was predeceased by her husband in 1999. She was also predeceased in death by her parents, her five siblings and a grandson, William A. Toussaint. Tina and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Thompson, PA until their retirement. They worked hard, enjoyed farm life and had many friends. Visits to the farm were always a great adventure for their grandsons.

Tina enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking. She was known for her pumpkin bread and Dutch almond logs. Tina and her husband also enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing and they traveled back to the Netherlands often to visit family and friends.

In addition to their three children, Tina and her husband had six grandchildren (James and Evan Haggett; Mark, David, William and Adam Toussaint) and many great- grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of her life. Her children pay tribute to her for the most important gift a child can receive from a parent-she was a good mother. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Pines for the high quality of care provided while a resident there for her last years. Tina especially enjoyed the activities.
