Leroy Anderson

Obituary of Leroy Philip Anderson

LeRoy P. Anderson—known to his friends as Roy—died peacefully at home on December 15, 2021.  He lived in Poughkeepsie and is survived by his sister,  Judith Ward of Massachusetts.  Roy was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Edith (Townsend) and by his brother, Allen “Andy” Anderson.  He was a gifted professional musician, music teacher, business owner and a Deputy in the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office.  Roy founded the Gene Krupa Jazz Association and Newsletter, and, working closely with his friend and fellow musician Dale DeMarco, created the Gene Krupa II Orchestra, licensed by the estate of Gene Krupa II.
As a young man, Roy proudly served in the United States Air Force, where his last duty assignment and major command was playing in Europe in the 751st United States Air Force Band.  He enjoyed playing the drums and played in several bands and orchestras over his career.
Roy had many friends including George Bowman, Jr., Olivia Marzer, Dennis LaVopa, Dale DeMarco, the late Adrian (“Butch”) Anderson and many others whose lives he touched, all of whom will treasure their memories of Roy even as they miss him.
There will be a celebration of life service for Roy in the Hudson Valley in the summer of 2022, which will be announced in the spring of 2022 in this paper.
