John Mascolino

Obituary of John Joseph Mascolino

John Joseph Mascolino, 68, of Wappinger Falls, NY unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
John was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 20, 1954 to the late Joseph Mario and Mary A. Leone Mascolino. He is survived by the love of his life, the former Linda Ann Fortin, whom he married on May 9, 1976 at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, NY.
A lifelong resident of the area, John attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School, as well as Dutchess Community College. He was the proud owner of WillSeal, inc. and he was also employed by Ten Mile River Preserve where “Buck” worked as a shooting instructor and made lifelong friends.
On any given day, you might find John admiring his cars, working with hunting dogs in the field, pinpointing a buck through the scope in his living room, or riding his mower while perfecting his Yankee Stadium-like lines in his lawn. However, his greatest joy was spending time with those that he loved. Between bear hugs, quiet gifts and exceptional advice, he was a masterful “Uncle John” to his lucky nieces and nephews.
To know John, even casually, was to know an unselfish, generous, larger-than-life man whose strong and tough external nature thinly veiled the giant heart beneath the flannel shirt. His generosity extended further than most even know. He quietly helped raise much needed funds for such worthy charities as the Grace Smith House and the Mid-Hudson Children’s museum. He was particularly proud of his work with the Carrington Foundation which serves injured veterans. Some of his gifts were large in gesture, but his greatest gift was his fiercely loyal friendship.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sister Patricia Ann Nocket of Poughkeepsie, NY; both brothers and sisters-in-law Jill (Mark) Mcleod of Poughkeepsie, NY; Donna (Dennis) Szeba of North Carolina; Nancy Blanding of Maine; Thomas (Denise) Fortin of Pleasant Valley, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his in-laws Vincent and Catherine Fortin and brother-in-law Thomas Nocket.
