Obituary of Dennis Carney

Dennis Joseph "Skip" Carney, 82, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022.  A local resident and previously of Carmel, NY, Skip was born in Long Island, NY on August 20, 1940.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, which he retired from as Chief Petty Officer from 1960 until retiring in 1986.  On February 14, 1993 he married Mary Ellen Hitchcock in Poughkeepsie and she predeceased him in 2015.  Skip was a member of AA and loved to do leather work and playing pool.  Skip is survived by his children; daughter Kelly Wyatt (Mark) of Maryland, sons Kim Carney of Poughkeepsie, Kevin Carney of Poughkeepsie, Donald Stevenson of FL, daughter Diane Geiger (Howard VanTassel) of Poughkeepsie and Daniel Stevenson of Poughkeepsie.  Also surviving are his 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, sisters Jackie MacCare and Lee Carney and his brother Todd Carney (Robin), as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, Skip was predeceased by his son Shawn Carney and brother Joseph Carney.  Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00pm at the Timothy P.
